I mean, when I was a teenager, my family took a day trip from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/glac\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Glacier National Park<\/a>, <a title=\"Many Glacier Hotel, where my sister worked\" href=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/1\/1a\/Many_glacier_hotel.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">where my sister had a summer job<\/a>, to\u2026somewhere in Alberta. Rich &amp; I spent our honeymoon on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.galianoisland.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Galiano Island<\/a>.* And my sister and I vacationed in Vancouver for a week a few years ago. So I DO have some other information and firsthand knowledge at my disposal.<\/p>\n<p>No, this is actually just what I know from going to many, many, <em>many<\/em> hockey games.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I can sing one verse, in English, of <em>O Canada<\/em>. It&#8217;s catchy. (BTW, if you get lost in the lyrics, try, &#8220;\u2026O Canada, we stand on guard for thee,&#8221; because it&#8217;s in there three times. Your odds aren&#8217;t bad.)<\/li>\n<li>I can name the thirteen provinces &amp; territories.<\/li>\n<li>I can name the seven Canadian NHL teams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But here&#8217;s where I start to falter. I can name players from <em>some<\/em> of those teams, but not all. Without looking (honest!):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Canucks \u2013 Pick a Sedin.<\/li>\n<li>Flames \u2013 Uh, I&#8217;ll get back to you.<\/li>\n<li>Jets \u2013 Buguf\u2026Buguglian\u2026Bufflin. I&#8217;ll have to look up how to spell his name, and I said &#8216;without looking.&#8217; You&#8217;d think I&#8217;d remember the name of <a href=\"http:\/\/stars.nhl.com\/club\/news.htm?id=748941&amp;navid=DL|DAL|home\" target=\"_blank\">the goalie who spanked us last night<\/a>, but I&#8217;ve blocked it out.<\/li>\n<li>Oilers \u2013 Er\u2026<\/li>\n<li>Senators \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alex_Chiasson\" target=\"_blank\">Chaisson<\/a>. My dear Chaisson\u2026!<\/li>\n<li>Canadiens \u2013\u00a0Subban. <em>Everybody<\/em> knows Subban.<\/li>\n<li>Maple Leafs \u2013 Phil &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/nesn.com\/2014\/11\/phil-kessel-tells-reporters-to-get-away-from-me-after-6-2-loss-to-sabres\/\" target=\"_blank\">Get Away From Me<\/a>\u2019 Kessel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mostly all I have to do is think of where various Stars players have been traded to, and that\u00a0gives me a name or two. But I&#8217;m going to have to work on the Oilers. And the Flames,\u00a0who I actually rather like, even though they&#8217;re in our division and so in direct competition with my beloved Stars. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgarysun.com\/2014\/08\/29\/broadcast-voices-new-and-old-for-calgary-flames\" target=\"_blank\">Their announcers<\/a> are a class act, my new favorites after <a href=\"http:\/\/stars.nhl.com\/club\/page.htm?id=39235\" target=\"_blank\">Ralph &amp; Razor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s okay. I mean, I can sing <em>O Canada<\/em>, after all!<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 282px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/vipmedia.globalnews.ca\/2015\/01\/dallas-stars-scoreboard-jan-15-2015-twitter.jpg?w=282&amp;h=188&amp;crop=1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/vipmedia.globalnews.ca\/2015\/01\/dallas-stars-scoreboard-jan-15-2015-twitter.jpg?w=282&amp;h=188&amp;crop=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>#5 \u2013 truth! The Jets fans behind us took themselves <strong>very<\/strong> seriously. They were noticeably miffed that I found this so funny.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><em>*We may have stayed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.madrona-lodge.com\/photogallery.php#thumb\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. The name sounds familiar, and the view from Ocean Loft looks like the view from our porch, but I have to tell you \u2014 they&#8217;ve renovated since 1986!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, not everything I know.
