And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insectsingers.com\/100th_meridian_cicadas\/songs\/04.US.TX.LWI.C23.Tibicen_superbus_two_phrases_filtered.mp3\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a> is what it sounds like around my house.<\/p>\n<p>I swear, it could be 10\u00b0F outside, and hearing those would make me start to sweat.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe it&#8217;s because I&#8217;ve always lived in warm climates, but the sound of cicadas is forever in the background of\u2026well, everything that happens\u00a0outside, in\u00a0all but the coldest times\u00a0of year. It&#8217;s one of those sensory things, like the lovely\u00a0smell as it starts to rain*, that triggers a memory or an emotional\u00a0response. Cicadas = blistering\u00a0sun in the daytime. Or sultry warm nights (and if that sounds pleasant\u00a0to you, you live someplace much cooler than here). Those cicada songs\u2014that&#8217;s\u00a0what hot weather sounds like.<\/p>\n<p>Well, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.birdjam.com\/birdsong.php?id=5\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-size: small;\">All the cicada sounds are from , and a fine website it is, too.
