(Her designs are just stunning, BTW. I mean, seriously, look at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hatsandnothats.com\/HatsandNotHats\/Womens_Patterns.html#18\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a>.)\u00a0I modified it, mostly because I\u2019m making it out of only one skein of Noro Silk Garden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">My sister Linda and I took a trip a few summers ago to North Carolina, to visit her daughter (my niece and namesake, thank you very much), who was finishing up her graduate degree at Chapel Hill. Suzanne (niece\/daughter) was doing an internship in Bayboro, with UNC-provided lodging in a spectacular house right on the water in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.townoforiental.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oriental<\/a>, a beautiful village on the coast. (I\u2019m told that Oriental is Sailing Capital of North Carolina.) We took a couple of day trips to the bright lights of New Bern, where author\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nicholas_Sparks\" target=\"_blank\">Nicholas Sparks<\/a>\u00a0now lives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">And because I am who I am, and I am a knitter, I found a LYS in New Bern.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">I bought my very first skein of Noro there. It was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/stash\/search#colorway=201+&amp;photo=yes&amp;yarn-link=noro-silk-garden\" target=\"_blank\">Silk Garden\u00a0201<\/a>, and I only bought one skein because it was really just a souvenir of Oriental\/New Bern. When I went searching for something to do with it and found Irina\u2019s intriguing pattern, I had a feeling I had found it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">I\u2019m loving it so far.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/originalorknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Scarf-in-progress.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-357\" src=\"http:\/\/originalorknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Scarf-in-progress-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Scarf-in-progress\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/originalorknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Scarf-in-progress-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/originalorknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Scarf-in-progress-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/originalorknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Scarf-in-progress-624x467.jpg 624w, https:\/\/originalorknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Scarf-in-progress.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">I cast on 18 stitches instead of 30, and I couldn\u2019t figure out how to do the fringes the way she instructed. (\u201cCast on 5 sts by inserting the right needle between first and second sts on left needle, yarn around needle and through. B.o. 5 sts just casted on.\u201d Nope. Never could figure that out.) So I made up a way to do it myself, using a crochet hook.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">(I have a really bad video demonstrating it, but it\u2019s way too sucky to publish here. I\u2019ll redo it when I have a better set up, and upload it then. Promise!)<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">In any case, the pattern takes advantage of the Noro color changes, and the entrelac\u00a0triangles\u00a0and stubby fringes add a lot of interesting texture. I\u2019ll take decent photos of it when it\u2019s finished.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Which, hopefully, won\u2019t be too soon! I\u2019m enjoying this so much, I find myself dragging my feet, so to speak, so I can enjoy it a little longer!
