The office my part time job is in is moving. We’re only moving up a floor, but it’s still a pain. Just like in a house, you never realize how much stuff you accumulate until you start packing\u00a0it.<\/p>\n
The thing is, it’s a paper-heavy industry, or, at least, used to be. There have been approximately four-and-a-half metric shit tons of paper to get rid of. And I’m the only one who even remotely cares about recycling. I’ve schlepped up there, after hours, time after time, to remove box after bin of perfectly good paper that\u00a0would otherwise end up in a landfill somewhere.<\/p>\n
I’m pretty sure I’m the oldest one in the office, except for my boss, who’s never there. The others have been involved in the planning and strategizing about the move, and their solution is to dump everything in a dumpster. They honestly say, “Well, if you’re willing to deal with recycling, go ahead.”<\/p>\n
I was never fortunate enough to have children. I’m not going to care about the air and water after I’m gone. These people already have children, or are young and likely to reproduce. Why don’t they care? It’s their<\/strong> children who’ll have asthma from the day they’re born. It’s their<\/strong>\u00a0grandkids who’ll be voting on a referendum on how to pay for the water reclamation plant, required\u00a0because there’s not enough fresh\u00a0water left.<\/p>\n Why am I the only one who cares?<\/p>\n After the big move on Monday, Rachel’s going to take whatever’s left and put it in a dumpster somewhere.
