{"id":19,"date":"2013-11-18T00:13:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-18T00:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/originalorknot.com\/?p=19"},"modified":"2015-04-05T14:45:17","modified_gmt":"2015-04-05T19:45:17","slug":"the-founders-chapel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/originalorknot.com\/?p=19","title":{"rendered":"The Founder&#8217;s Chapel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On this, the 17th Day of Thanksgiving (T-minus 11 and counting), I&#8217;m thankful for the Founder&#8217;s Chapel at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whiteschapelumc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">White&#8217;s Chapel UMC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/originalorknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/5785-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/originalorknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/5785-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>White&#8217;s Chapel is a very large <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">United Methodist<\/a> church, the only one in Southlake. It&#8217;s too big for me, and I have some problems with how they spend their money, but the Founder&#8217;s Chapel\u2026oh, the Founder&#8217;s Chapel!<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/originalorknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/4193862994_d269fbe809_z.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/originalorknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/4193862994_d269fbe809_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">Small, simple. Beautiful. Talented and dedicated musicians, faithful lay leaders, readers and ushers, a small but above average congregation. (Okay, the pastor joked about it today, relating this: the lovely woman who leads the singing asked him if he wanted to review the service before it began. He said, &#8220;Well, is there something extraordinary about it?&#8221; She said, &#8220;Besides me? No.&#8221; He had to agree with her that she is, and then went on to tell us that the Founder&#8217;s Chapel is White&#8217;s Chapel&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/prairiehome.publicradio.org\/about\/podcast\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lake Wobegon<\/a>.) We take communion every week, they ring an actual church bell at the beginning and end of the service. Plus we&#8217;re outta there by 10:30am!<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">We have a different associate pastor preaching each month, and they cancel our service anytime there&#8217;s anything else going on. But it&#8217;s a fine, personal, get-down-to-basics service. (And at White&#8217;s Chapel, where everything tends to be an extravaganza, that&#8217;s doing something.)<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">So I&#8217;m thankful that I found it.
